The addition of two further storeys of space above our own offices in the Merchant City district of Glasgow. The existing building sits like a small chess piece opposite the Ramshorn Kirk, at the junction of Candleriggs and Ingram Street, a corner which is perhaps underplayed in urban terms and able to accept a more prominent role. The stone finishes of the building, erected as a bank in the 1920s, conceal a robust concrete frame and floors which are quite capable of taking carefully placed loads from the addition. The theme of a relatively simple, chunky form present in the original building is further developed in the new.
