At the very inception of studioKAP as a practice we found ourselves amongst the small group of UK architects shortlisted for this prestigious project, since undertaken by Reiach and Hall. A wonderful opportunity in terms of the unique urban fabric of Stromness, the cultural climate of Orkney, the humanity of the Pier Arts Centre’s permanent collection and the distinguished simplicity of its existing buildings. As architects we find inspiration and empathy with the Orkneys and have often returned there in connection with a variety of other projects.
