Balornock Bowling Club has existed on this site for many years. Whilst very proud of its green and sporting achievements, the club’s built accommodation was poor. We were approached with a strong vision for a building to take pride in as a club and one which would develop its presence as a strong focus in the local community. An over-sailing roof takes the measure of the green with a simple rectilinear edge. Volumes of accommodation are arranged beneath this. Economy and security condensed multiple openings into intense, timber events in otherwise closed walls. Roller shutters are discretely housed. A long function room faces the green and changing rooms and members’ entrance open directly onto it. Service accommodation forms a hard back to the building while the roof extends southwards to shelter a terrace onto the park.
