studioKAP were one of a small number of practices invited to prepare a competitive design submission for a new community centre for the picturesque East Coast village of Collieston. The proposed site was centred around the old village school, on a high promontory overlooking the village. Our proposals developed as a language of landscape and wall beneath silhouetted, sheltering roofs and received strong support from the community during the selection process. A gathering place on the hill for the village and its children. At the same time a beacon for its community in a wider context. Above the village and yet part of it; high enough to see yet embedded against the weather; contemporary and yet native.
