Millenium Hut
Govanhill, Glasgow
1999
£30,000
3 month traditional contract with Claire Barclay ·
Located within a new public space as part of Glasgow 1999’s ‘Five Spaces’ initiative, the ‘Millennium Hut’ was designed in collaboration with the artist Claire Barclay to provide a much-needed community facility. A garden store, workshop, library, growing shelves and viewing platform are contained within a timber three storey structure of new and recycled elements with a footprint of just 2m x 2m. The hut utilises photovoltaic panels to demonstrate a responsive and responsible attitude to natural resources while creating a local landmark on the edge of Govanhill.
