Educational self-build project ·
We were invited to create a project at the school, both the process and end results of which were to play a strong pedagogic role. Working in close collaboration with the teacher and her group of 8/9 year old children a language of design and construction was developed that enabled hands-on exploration of spatial and material experiences from discussion through drawing, model-making, sourcing and harvesting of materials to the act of building itself. The physical legacy of the project is an organic structure within the Kindergarten playground of boarded roofs, woven willow walls, suspended floors and paved ground set within a loose framework of rough log posts.
