Listed Building Refurbishments

Edinburgh and Glasgow

1998

Traditional /construction management contracts of varying scale from £100,000 to £1.2m ·

Over the past ten years we have carried out a significant number of refurbishment and conversion projects for niche residential developers, largely in Edinburgh New Town though also in Stirling and the West End of Glasgow. In all cases these have involved grade A or B Listed buildings within Conservation Areas. Significant examples include: Wellington Court, the conversion of an A-listed bonded warehouse in Leith as twelve duplex apartments and St Stephen Street School, an A-listed Georgian building in Edinburgh New Town converted as four open plan “loft” apartments. Finding solutions to the conversion of historic buildings which are not only sympathetic but also economically viable requires not only a certain three-dimensional ingenuity but also an in-depth understanding of the existing fabric, its construction and historical significance. We have enjoyed a very high success rate in planning and conservation negotiations with Local Authorities and Historic Scotland and have gone on to monitor almost all of these projects through to completion on site, assisting our clients to realise what have in general been very profitable residential developments.
