Braefoot

Dumgoyne, Stirlingshire

2008

£225,000

6 month traditional contract ·

A new extension to a two storey (multi-extended) 19th century artisan’s cottage located in a spectacular rural setting is designed to take advantage of the open aspect towards the distant hills while forming a meaningful connection internally and externally to the existing house. The new work takes the form of a pavilion, leaning against the existing house and deliberately displaying a degree of visual autonomy whilst acknowledging the vernacular tradition of grouping different forms into an organic whole. The architectural language of new openings acknowledges the ‘frame and cladding’ construction method rather than self-conscious references to the past and provides a rich variety of lighting conditions internally and framed views externally.
