Located in the East Pollokshields conservation area, the refurbishment of a traditional shop unit at the base of a B-listed Victorian tenement block. Working from a bare shell with the proposed use as a flower shop, the interior is conceived as a quiet canvas, the backdrop to a rich composition of colours, shapes and textures. Its atmosphere is distinguished by a lining of douglas fir, coated with wax oil to the walls and washed with lye and white soap to the floor, intermittently punctuated by bronze ironmongery and fixtures. A key part of the works involved the shop front being completely replaced taking full advantage of the light available from the southern aspect. Many of the traditional features to the frontage, common to its neighbours, were reinstated sympathetically thus allowing it to visually sit comfortably within its terrace. Crucial to the refurbishment is that the alterations work quietly in the background to provide a space in which to delight in the display of the products being sold.
