Clyde Navigation Trust

Renfrew

2004

Experimental design submission ·

Three Scottish practices, including studioKAP, were asked to prepare proposals to show how the historic buildings of the Clyde Navigation Trust, designed in 1905 and under threat from a blanket of speculative residential development, could be integrated into a mixed-use riverside quarter including the Clyde River Boatyard as the focus of an international marine centre. Renfrewshire Council’s masterplan for the riverside would potentially support this idea. However, the land is currently owned by developers who have stated that they have no intention of retaining the boatyard and are currently trying to evict businesses from the site. If this happens, the last historic link between Renfrew and it’s maritime past will be lost.
